THE CUNY ALLIANCE
Question: When does 9.5% equal 15 %?
Answer: When the incumbent New Caucus wants to hide a bad contract deal during their re-election campaign.
Fact: New Caucus leader Barbara Bowen wants us to accept a 9.5% salary increase over four years and claims it is "identical to [that] achieved by SUNY faculty in this round of bargaining" (PSC Winter 05-06 March bulletin)
Fact: The SUNY deal is not 9.5%, but a far richer 15% increase, as proved by what New Caucus leaders used to say before they started running for re-election:
- In
October 2005, New Caucus Leader Barbara Bowen stated, "... our SUNY colleagues in United University Professions [UUP]... accepted a four-year contract worthy of 15% in salary improvements of the life of the agreement while also getting an $800 cash bonus (Click here)
- On
the PSC website: "...UUP members accepted a four-year contract worth 15% in salary improvements over the life of the agreement, including an $800 cash bonus (See Public Sector box)
That the New Caucus claims that the 9.5% salary increase that they propose is the same as a 15% salary increase proves one thing: The New Caucus will say anything to try to get re-elected.
The New Caucus doesn't want you to realize that their 9.5% salary deal is 3.0% less than the 12.5% cost of living increase over the last 40 months, and is far less than our colleagues in other unions achieved.
If the incumbent New Caucus won't tell you the truth about contract deals, they can't be trusted to govern the union.
It's time to change union leaders
