CUNY ALLIANCE

March 11, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

You recently received a flyer from the New Caucus introducing their slate and their intention to once again run for reelection.

In the flyer, Barbara Bowen speaks about:
their capacity "TO BUILD THE LABOR MOVEMENT,"
their deep commitment "TO SOCIAL JUSTICE,"
and their ambitions for "THE LABOR MOVEMENT."

They have been in office for nine years.
Yes - for nine years, they have had total control of the union and its revenue.
They are entrenched incumbents.

They have spent almost $100 million of your dues money. Yet there is not one word in their flyer about:
your salary,
your paycheck,
your welfare fund benefits, or
the true business of the union: resolving grievances promptly and protecting your professional rights.

Nine-year all-powerful incumbents must run on their records! These incumbents seem to be running away from theirs!

What did they do with the $100 million in dues money???
Did they spend 52 weeks a year, five days a week, for nine years working on "social justice and the labor movement" outside of CUNY???

This election is a referendum on the New Caucus Contracts!

Every contract they have negotiated is a disappointment!
If you believe that your buying power and welfare benefits are better now than when they started, you should vote for them.

However if you understand the indisputable facts - that your buying power is at least 7.2% less and your welfare benefits are the worst of any major union in the city, then it is time for a change!

It is time to vote for a leadership that is dedicated to
"Paycheck Justice"
for each and every member of PSC-CUNY!

The CUNY Alliance has a deep commitment to only one group—the faculty and professional staff of CUNY!!  We will serve you and only you!!

Have the courage to change the paradigm—
Vote CUNY Alliance!!
